Burbo Bank Extension
Monopiles fabricated: The first of 144 parts of 16 transition pieces for Dong Energy’s 256MW Burbo Bank Extension has been completed at Offshore Structures (Britain)’s (OSB) new Teesside site in north east England.
OSB – a joint venture between EEW SPC and Bladt Industries – is fabricating half of the 256MW project’s transition pieces.
Bladt Industries will fabricate another 16 transition pieces at its site in Aalborg, Denmark.
The 32 monopiles will be made by EEW SPC in Rostock, Germany. 21-Aug-15
Rampion
Export cables: E.on has contracted VBMS (formerly VSMC) to install Rampion’s export cables.
The two 16 kilometre long 150kV HVAC cables will connect the 400MW wind farm to the onshore cable in Worthing, West Sussex.
The scope of work includes the laying and simultaneous burial of the cables, at the project site in the English Channel.
VBMS will deploy the Stemat Spirit, with the work scheduled for Q3 2016. 24-Aug-15
Walney Extension
Construction start: Construction at the site of Dong’s 660MW Walney Extension’s onshore substation in Heysham, Lancashire is under way.
Installation of the onshore cable planned for early 2016.
The two-phase 660MW Walney Extension is planned for a site in the Irish Sea, beside the existing 367MW Walney 1&2. The project was granted consent in November 2014.
Dong Energy expects to make a final investment decision on the project later this year. 24-Aug-15
Gunfleet Sands
Crew transfers: Vessel supplier CWind has been awarded the crew transfer contract at Dong’s 173MW Gunfleet Sands.
Working out of Brightlingsea in Essex, the CWind Challenger will carry O&M technicians and equipment to the wind farm for three years, with the possibility of a two year extension.
Gunfleet Sands was commissioned in 2010. 25-Aug-15
Yttre Stengrund
Decommissioning scheduled: The decommissioning of the 10MW Yttre Stengrund is due to start in mid-September and should be completed by November, Vattenfall has confirmed.
Located in Kalmar County, Sweden’s second oldest offshore wind farm came online in 2001 and has come to the end of its economically viable life.
The project uses five 2MW NEG Micon turbines. 25-Aug-15
Sheringham Shoal
Emergency drills: The emergency response drills at Sheringham Shoal will be activated on 10 September 2015, in order that the systems and procedures may be fully tested.
The exercise will involve a helicopter airlifting a simulated casualty off the top of a turbine and an RNLI lifeboat evacuating a second simulated casualty to shore, at either Cromer or Sheringham.
Operated by Statkraft, the 317MW wind farm lies in the North Sea, off the Norfolk coast. 25-Aug-15
Fecamp
Survey’s begin: Belgium’s G-tec has taken delivery of a former tug and offshore supply vessel that has been converted into a survey vessel.
The Omalius – formerly the Normand Draupine – was built in 1985 and is now a multi-purpose vessel, offering offshore geotechnical site investigation capabilities, ROV inspections and other services.
The vessel will undertake survey work at the 498MW Fecamp project site at the end of August, with the work expected to be completed by mid-October.
Planned for a site in the English Channel, Fecamp is a joint venture between EDF Energies Nouvelles, Dong and wpd. 26-Aug-15
